Me, Myself and The GLOPP!
(Glp-1HRTCollagenCreatineProteinPeptidesOh my!).”
How do I know what is right for my body?
If you are getting your healthcare tips from social media and YouTube you may not be in the best hands medically speaking. It can be hard to decipher fact from fiction or fad! It is so easy to get caught up in the excitement of a one size fits all quick fix for weight loss or hormone balancing. The NON-STOP high velocity flow of information flooding our systems is convincing us we need all of these things to feel better, look better, to be better. We need the GLOPP!
Don’t we?
I am almost willing to say that every single one of my patients in the last year, no matter the age, no matter the gender, no matter the size, no matter the lack of health care issues, has asked me about what I call “The GLOPP"(Glp1HRTCollagenCreatineProteinPeptidesOh my!).”
I have been practicing medicine for almost 20 years and I only know two people who are using GLP-1’s appropriately for weight loss related to Cardiovascular health and unmanaged Diabetes. Take a wild guess how many people are using them?
I fear this is our next health care crisis in the making. We are literally dying to be thin. The 10-15 pounds we may shed, and will most likely re-gain, is so vitally important to our “happiness” that we are willing to ignore the black box warnings of these medications that cause thyro-medullary cancers and chronic gastrointestinal distress(to name a few of many).
The deeper more heartbreaking issue is that fabricated social media platforms have created a global lack of self acceptance. We need the GLOPP or we fail. We need to alter ourselves artificially or we lose.
Protein, Collagen, Creatine, Bars, Powders, aka. Synthetic, Processed “food” products that are making $$$$. We know this is a fad. These products are being mass marketed by social media and every advert popup ‘especially’ made for you! And yes, we also can find great studies for things like creatine for brain health and muscle building. Collagen for hair skin and nails. Eat enough protein to help muscle make ATP….AND, at the same time this is GLOPP!
Ever heard of too much of a good thing? aka. Processed GLOPP.
On a regular basis if your daily menu entails coffee, collagen, creatine, protein powder, energy drink, protein bar, more than 5 supplements and more than 2 medications, you need a revamp.
Eat real food.
If you are 35-55 years old you are probably using some form of hormone therapy or think you should be. This is another plop in the GLOPP!
I love women’s health. I love all the developing research aligning with women’s health. I am a menopausal woman. I Identify. This is much overdue support in our arena AND at the same time not every women needs to be on an estradiol patch and oral progesterone. I had severe night-sweats and amenorrhea in medical school. In todays day and age I would be told to go on hormones….this was not perimenopause it was STRESS! We have sex hormone receptors all over the body, in the brain, in the gut, linked to our endocrine system. Systemic changes in the body are reflecting the system as a whole. We need to pay attention to these signs to know what is happening in our bodies. Proper evaluation of hormones, labs and assessment are important parts of whole body wellness before starting any kind of hormone therapy. If you want to learn how to support your body and the natural changes you will encounter from menarche to menopause we are here for you!
Information Overload!
If you are struggling to navigate the overload of information out there on what to eat, how to exercise, what supplements to take, pros and cons of medications and what your body needs to feel its best then this is the best place to start.
We are all individuals with different backgrounds, different needs. We are under unique stressors. We have variability in our hormone status. Our metabolism runs at different rates. One size fits all medicine does not work for everyone and can have serious risks.
We start with You!
The Me, Myself and I approach and drop the GLOPP! Who are you as a person and what does your body need to function at your best. It can be valuable to run labs so we can then identify when things are out of the norm. As your body changes in regards to age or hormones our physiology dramatically shifts and what used to work no longer works any more. We honor this place and find your new baseline so you can feel like your best self. Let’s approach your health with communication, patience and balance. Salud!
With Love, Dr.M
